Flocking is used in the creation of silicone and and gelatine prosthetics. It works well with pigments and helps to create a realistic skin tone instead of just using pigments causing your prosthetic to look flat. Skin is not perfect so the flocking can help to make it look less mask like and more realistic. The colouring will be in the application as opposed to on the surface. 

It can also be used in a flocking machine to create fur and hair textures.
