Hand-Crafted Irish brushes with excellent hair retention.

Our Sunaura Brushes are developed in response to requests from top make-up artists to use on-set and in productions. Handmade in Ireland, our brushes have wooden handles, excellent hair retention and are made from only the finest quality fibres, whether they’re made from our high quality badgerlon synthetic, or from natural fibres such as sable, pony or goat hair. We have over sixty different types of brushes in our catalogue, and we are always looking to expand and create more!

Our Sunaura Brushes are manufactured in Ireland exclusively for us. All of our brushes are hand-made-- that means that the hair is painstakingly glued deep into the rust-free ferrule, meaning the hairs are far less likely to shed than mass-produced brushes. We know ourselves that there is nothing more frustrating for a make-up artist than to have stray brush hairs all over their beautiful make-up! That’s why we are so proud of our brushes; they have really fantastic hair retention.

Caring for and properly storing your make-up brushes is so important to keep them healthy and usable. Our Sunaura Brushes will last indefinitely so long as you take good care of them! We recommend using cleaners such as the MaqPro Paris Brush Cleaner, as it will condition the hairs as well as cleaning them. Hard Soap is also a favourite of many make-up artists! Simply dampen the hairs of your brushes, then slowly swirl the brush around on top of the soap to clean off any product. To dry your brush, we always recommend drying them by hanging them upside down. If you leave your brushes to dry upright in your brush holder for example, the water from the hairs can run down into the ferrule. Over time, this will start to dissolve the glue, leaving to shedding of hairs.

Below you’ll find information on the different types of brushes we do, including sable hair brushes, goat hair, badgerlon and pony hair. Each of these types of hair have different uses, but what we love about our brushes is we don’t limit them to just one function!

Sable Hair Brushes

One of our most popular types of brushes are our collection of Sable brushes. Sable is one of the highest-quality fibres you can get for your make-up brushes as it is both soft and resistant, with a "belly" and a point. Because the Sable hairs are natural fibres, they have a cuticle, which protects it and gives it texture on a microscopic level, so it picks up product so easily. That mean our sable brushes are particularly great for eyeshadows and other powdery pigments!

Goat Hair Brushes

While sable hair brushes are good for picking up eyeshadows, the sable is a little bit too soft to work in larger brushes like blusher or powder brushes. That’s where goat hair comes in! We have two types-- a budget-friendly Goat Hair and a Super Goat hair, which is made from the finest, softest hair found on the neck of the goat. It’s always worth investing in real, natural-hair fibres for larger brushes like Powder or Blusher brushes, as you’ll end up spending less on the make-up product itself if you buy good quality brushes that pick up the product really well. We love using our Goat and Super Goat Brushes for blushes, powders and for blending!

Pony Hair Brushes

We have a large variety of different Pony Hair brushes in our collection in both white and black. Pony Hair is a soft yet strong hair with a cylindrical shape, so there is a consistent thickness from root to tip. Pony is a very versatile hair, which is why we use it for our shadow brushes, contouring brushes, and even in one or two of our foundation brushes! Like our other natural fibres-- Goat and Sable-- Pony Hair has tiny hair follicles that pick up product really well.

Badgerlon Brushes

We have a lot of synthetic brushes as well! Made from Nylon, they are often called Badgerlon brushes due to the dual-coloured nylon hair used to create them. We use Badgerlon a lot for our foundation, concealing and general purpose brushes. Synthetic brushes are a lot easier to clean and maintain as they don’t have the cuticle that natural hair does. The smooth, slippery bristles don’t hold on to as much dirt and excess product like natural hair does. Synthetic fibres are also more resiliant so you ‘ll find that our Badgerlon brushes work really well as concealer and eyeliner brushes, as the fibres don’t easily get bent out of shape.
